Fly Higher project showcased at STEM event - Coventry University 26th July 2013
Coventry University hosted a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Master class for over 300 17 year old School and College students on 26th July 2013. The day provided activities and meetings designed to show the livelier side of what a STEM career can involve.
The event has been hosted several times. The day involved contributions from engineering departments within the Faculty of Engineering and Computing. This year it included an air powered racer from the Automotive Department, a bridge building activity from the Civil Engineering department and a careers talk from industry representatives.
The contribution from the Aerospace and Electrical department highlight the FP7 Fly Higher project along with some key activities to interest and hopefully inspire.

Fly higher visit RAF Cosford Airshow Sunday 9th June 2013
A team from the Fly Higher project were invited to attend this large UK air show. It was a glorious day with approximately 60000 visitors. On the Fly Higher stand young people could learn about our project and also have some fun creating their own pneumatically powered rocket. We made people aware of our web competitions and handed out leaflets about our work. We were also visited by the celebrity Carol Vorderman who enjoyed firing her own rocket. some pictures are sown and a longer report of the event will follow.

Fly Higher Workshop – Coventry University
The Fly Higher Project plans to give a relevant contribute to raising the interest of young Europeans for engineering activities in the field of aeronautics with the aim of attracting them at a later stage to scientific and technical careers in the aeronautical sector and therefore contribute to the growth of skilled employment and competitiveness of Europe.
To achieve this, Coventry University has held a workshop, on the 13th of December, at their brand-new facilities, with the purpose of bringing together people from industry to discuss the desired skills from new recruits and any gaps in skills they frequently identify. The workshop gathered in total around 20 participants, representing various sectors and within the European Aeronautics industry.
We would like to thank all the participants for their comments, opinions and overall active participation in the workshop. We hope they will continue interested in the further developments of the Fly Higher project.
